The changes to Energy Performance Certificates software

Date Published 31 January 2016

The software used for calculating Energy Performance Certificates will be a-changing for the better following the revelation that up to 10,000 properties may have been wrongly classified and given lower efficiency ratings then they should have been.

Energy Performance Certificates can understate the energy efficiency of homes with solid walls and uninsulated cavity walls. The result of this being that thousands of properties have been given incorrect F and G classifications – the lowest ratings possible.

This of course would have been a concern for our clients with solid and uninsulated cavity walls, as from April 2018 onwards, a minimum EPC rating of an E will be required in all private rented accommodation.

So both myself & Nick are naturally relieved to hear the Department for Energy and Climate Change has indicated the Government will be making the necessary changes to the EPC software (which includes measuring the thermal efficiency of walls).
